Did you know that the average American spends $5,111 per month on living costs? Life is expensive, especially with rising gas prices and the increasing costs of rent.

If you are pregnant, you may be worried about the financial burden that giving birth or having an abortion will create–especially if you are already struggling to make ends meet.

Before you schedule an abortion, you should know it comes with a price tag.

Abortion Can Be Expensive

According to local abortion clinics, the abortion pill can cost an average of $650, and other abortion services can cost between $650-1400, depending how far along you are in your pregnancy.

Since there is no abortion clinic in Clinton County, you will have to travel to Dayton or Columbus–even for the abortion pill prescription, which will require more time and gas money.

If you are more than 22 weeks gestation, you will have to travel even farther, because abortion is illegal in Ohio past that point. However, a six-week ban could go back into effect depending on the outcome of legal proceedings.

Because many states require 24 hours between your initial pre-abortion appointment and the procedure, out of state travel will likely require a hotel stay, which on average costs $125. You will also need to take time off work, pay for gas, and food.

If there are any complications with your abortion, you will also need to pay for additional medical bills, which may include a trip in an ambulance, an additional surgery, anesthesia or other life-saving treatment.

Financial Aid is Available to You

If you are worried about finances, you should consider adoption instead of abortion. In this circumstance, you will receive financial aid.

Many adoption agencies can help cover the costs associated with all prenatal care, labor and delivery, and postpartum care. You may even receive help with food, vitamins, toiletries, housing, transportation, and even maternity clothes.

Adoption may also be a good option for you because you get to be in control of every decision along the way. You will get to choose the adoptive family, and how much (or little) contact you have with your child in the future. You get to be empowered to call the shots.
